Moving Forward, Giving Back.

1/26/2016

Moving Forward residents volunteer weekly.

Each week, the residents of Moving Forward have an opportunity to give back to the community through volunteering:

The Napa Library -
Every Friday we volunteer at the library to check on the overall condition of books.  Those books with poor binding, torn pages, or missing pages are put on the cart for repair.  After the books have been inspected to make sure they are in good condition, we spray them down.  We are working on the upkeep of all of the books in the Library.

The Food Bank -
We take volunteers twice a week to the Napa Valley Food Bank. Each visit we fill between 10 and 20 bags of groceries that go to low income families in American Canyon.  Our residents sort the bulk bins, check dates, and stock a balanced variety of canned and dried goods that cover all of the food groups.  We also occasionally sort and fill bags of dog food and cat food that go to the pets of homeless/low income people.

Not only do our residents get to give back to the community, those residents working toward employment get an opportunity to work on job related skills.

Moving Forward residents volunteer their time on MLK day.

With many job sites closed for the holiday, Moving Forward participated in a volunteering opportunity put on by Napa Valley Can Do.  While a group of our residents do volunteer in the community each week, this was a special chance to give back.  On this volunteering trip, one group of residents had an opportunity to pick up garbage along a local bike path (pictured below).  The other group had the opportunity to write Valentine's Day cards for seniors in rest homes, people in the hospital, and the troops serving overseas.  These cards looked great thanks to donations from the local store:  Napa Valley Art Supplies!  All of our residents' hard work was much appreciated, and some fun was had along the way.  Giving back to the community can feel great!
